This week Katie, Milo and Elizabeth are leaving to drive to River Grove Farm in Hailey Idaho so Katie can work and train with Debbie McDonald. She will be sending Elizabeth regular training updates via video. All of the family, students and critters will miss her terribly while she is gone  but we are excited at the prospect of all the great training!!

Katie Johnson Claims her Second Gold Medal at 2008 NAJYRC

Parker, CO – August 2, 2008

Competition continued today at the CN North American Junior and Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC) at The Colorado Horse Park Presented by Gotham North. In young rider dressage, Katie Johnson impressed judges and spectators with a 69.05% to claim the gold medal in the young rider individual test.

Johnson was also on the gold medal winning Region VII team on Thursday. Jennifer Brannigan held on to her lead in the CCI** division after turning in a clear round over David O’Connor’s cross- country course.

Team Gold at 2008 North American Young Riders Championships

Region 7 Wins Young Riders Dressage Team Gold at 2008 CN North American Junior & Young Rider Championships at The Colorado Horse Park

Presented by Gotham North Parker, CO – July 31, 2008

The CN North American Junior and Young Rider Championships at the Colorado Horse Park Presented by Gotham North are the premier equestrian event in North America for riders age 14-21. Run in a format similar to the Olympic Games, the Championships feature riders competing for team and individual medals in the three Olympic disciplines of show jumping, dressage and eventing, as well as the western discipline of reining, which was added to the schedule this year.

The Region 7 team won the Gold with a score of 4417 points and a percentage of 65.437, followed by Region 8 with a score of 4395 points and 65.111% and Canada- Ontario who received a score of 4374 points and 64.800%. Each team counts its three best scores.

Region 7, whose riders were all competing in their first Young Riders Championship, was led by Katie Johnson of El Cajon, CA who scored 66.356% on Millenium. Region 7 also got scores of 65.778% from Brianna Dutton of Tracy, CA on Tibet,

Katie’s Story

August 2008

If you had asked me 4 months ago if I was going to qualify to be on the Region 7 team at the NAJYRC I would have told you that you were officially crazy if not for any other reason than I didn’t have a horse. But, due to all of the amazing people in my life, some very sweet strangers that will now be lifelong friends, one brilliant horse with a heart the size of Texas and a lot of hard work, I made it, and came home with two gold medals!!

The journey to Parker, Colorado was pretty painless. It is a 22-hour drive but when my mom and I decided to drive my horse ourselves we thought it would be best to split it up into 2 days. So we pulled out a divider in my bumper pull 3 horse trailer and started the organized packing, well I don’t know if packing is the right term…it turned out to be organized piling! We drove out through Las Vegas, then to Utah where we laid over at a very nice horse hotel. Then it was onward to Colorado! The mountain drive was
